National Air and Space Museum

We decided to go to the Air and Space Museum to see the exhibits that we didn’t get to look at last week. We arrived at the museum before it opened, and there already was a long line.

The boys and I waited off to the side while Kenton stood in line Behind the boys are the airplanes in the ‘America By Air’ exhibit. This exhibit is about the history of air transportation in the U.S. Also in the America By Air exhibit, the front fuselage of a Boeing 747 is displayed. Kevin and Justin take a look inside.

In the Exploring the Planets exhibit, the boys learned many facts about the different planets and their moons. Here, Kevin takes a quiz on the planets. In the World War II exhibit, Kevin and Brian stand inside the fuselage of the famous Flak Bait. This American bomber aircraft survived the highest number of bombing missions (over 200) during World War II. Another aircraft in the World War II exhibit is a Messerschmitt Bf. 198G-6. This was Germany’s best known aircraft throughout the war, and still is to this day. In the Sea-Air Operations exhibit, Justin has his map of the museum (wrapped around the railing here). He is looking to circle off the aircrafts, Grumman F4F and Douglas SBD-6 Dauntless. We plan to return to this museum a third time in the near future, so that Justin can circle off the remaining few aircraft on his map.
